The 13th-century Cathedral of Chartres is the city’s main landmark and a famous site of Christian pilgrimage. Featuring 18th-century stained-glass windows and a stunning façade with bas-relief sculptures and stone statues, this UNESCO World Heritage is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in France.
On the back side of the Cathedral, travellers will find a Grass Labyrinth, date back to around 1200. According to the tradition, pilgrims used to go to the centre of the labyrinth in order to receive the grace of God.
The Massacre Bridge is one of the bridges crossing the Eure River, which flows right to the heart of the old part of the city. Chartres has also beautiful churches like the St. Aignan and the St. Martin-au-Val.

The cathedral is not to be missed.
The cathedral is not to be missed. Even if you're not big on churches or old buildings you will be impressed by the truly amazing cleaning and restoration work that has been done over the last two years or so and is still going on. The immediate surroundings include many attractive old buildings and several cafés and restaurants.

Central Chartres is a mix of old and new with many historical buildings and of course the amazing cathedral. Lots of lovely local restaurants ranging from brasseries to Greek/Turkish family cooking and people are very friendly. Loved walking along the river to get different perspectives of the cathedral

Whilst the amazing Cathedral of Chartres must be its main draw, the city centre itself is well worth a visit, being a mass of mediaeval lanes and alleys fully of lovely old buildings as well as lots of shops and eateries. The river Eure also flows through the city and a walk along it is recommended.
One further piece of entertainment not to miss are the various light shows projected every night onto various walls, bridges and churches as well as the cathedral. Extraordinary does not do the show justice.
Overall a great place to visit for a weekend - 2 days (and nights) would probably be enough.

Lovely little town, very contained and walkable.
Lovely little town, very contained and walkable. There are many restaurants everywhere as it is a definite tourist town. 2 days is more than long enough to visit and see everything, it would also be fine for a day trip from Paris.

A terrific gem of a city.
A terrific gem of a city. Very walkable with many great cafes and bistros. Not the typical American tourist spot, but we felt welcomed. The Cathedral is so amazing and worthy of several hours to appreciate it. Tours are available and worth it. If your visit is in summer, the city night light show is very unique and artistic. Take the tiny train to see it all. Great home base location to visit nearby chateaus too. The local TI wasn't as helpful (although their building is very cool) as the Chartres visitors center across the street from the front of the Cathedral.
Tricky to find in very busy Chartres traffic from the north. Not helped by a major building development nearby which had closed roads and diverted flow. However it was only 15 mins on foot from the Cathedral and the centre of the city in the evening. Quiet location with parking. Good restaurant recommendation and lovely breakfast the following day. Travelling south exit from Chartres was no problem. Our host Jerome was on top form and we were well looked after.
The location was excellent! Charming area within a few minutes walk to the cathedral, river bridges, and other sites. Beautiful strolling day and night. The apartment was stylish with nice lighting fixtures, shower, all needed kitchen amenities, and great views of the cathedral alleys and rooftops in Chartres. The gorgeous Queen Bertha’s staircase is right across the alley. Lovely, quiet location. Pleasant owner and assistant as well.
We were just a short walk from the Cathedral and the heart of Chartres' restaurant/shopping district. (There are some hills and steps involved ... but hey, it's Chartres!) We loved having access to a washer and dryer. Conceiçao left us bottles of water, juice boxes, and delicious, individually wrapped cakes. She and Giles even found us free parking right across the quiet narrow street from the apartment.
The place is sensational, you are practically 15 meter from the Cathedrale. The room is big and have an old fashion charm. The lady of the house is great, very good breakfast and even the coffee is better then in most places in France (good coffee is hard to find in this beautiful land). I will go back, and I will tell my friends, it is the right place to go to in Chartres
B&B have taken over the hotel from IBIS hotels. I have stayed there before and from memory nothing has changed, which is good. Location is good, being very close to Chartres cathedral and the old town. Local parking in the hotel grounds is reasonable. Illuminations between dusk and 01:00 are well worth staying up for, especially the cathedral animations.
Hotel decor is lovely, with dark walls and a retro vibe.
The staff was friendly and helpful and the location is perfect for seeing the cathedral. I reserved a 2 room suite with pullout couch not expecting to use the pull-out. My cousin ended up using the pull-out bed and said it was very comfortable. That was a big plus!
The hotel is a former abbey and the rooms and bathrooms remain spartan. Breakfast was "ok". Location was AMAZING and there was free parking once you figured out how to navigate a car there (with construction, you currently have to drive down a one way street ..... the wrong way!
Exceptionally beautiful decor. Excellent breakfast, supremely comfortable bed. Private, quiet, secluded house in the heart of Chartres. Fantastic value for money. A highlight of our trip and a great place to break the journey home from Spain and the south of France.
Great modern hotel. Quick and easy check in, given a code for the room instead of a key/card. Lots of free parking outside. Dog friendly and no extra charges for the dogs. Good location for travelling through France.
The breakfast was fantastic and the hotel was ideally located for visiting the cathedral, so if you are going for Chartres en lumières you are nice and close.
